3 steps to great skin

There are plenty of steps you can follow in order to achieve naturally flawless skin, but if we had to recommend just a few, it'd be these:



1) Scrub It Away Now



to wash or rub (a part of the body) with a granular substance like sugar, salt or coffee grinds in order to remove dead cells from the surface of the skin.

Exfoliation involves the removal of the oldest dead skin cells on the skin's outermost surface. Sometimes, dead skin cells don’t shed completely and this can result in dry, flaky patches or even clogged pores. Exfoliating can help prevent this!

Apply the scrub to your face or any area of the body by gently massaging in a circular motion to exfoliate and remove dead skin and impurities. To compete, rinse with warm water and the oils will absorb quickly into the skin for maximum hydration. Although our Coconut Sugar will leave your face and body feeling extremely hydrated on its own, it is always a good idea to follow up with a moisturizer or SPF to lock in and protect the newly exposed and sometimes sensitive skin (we recommend something with non-nano zinc oxide like our all natural, plant based and chemical free Raw Sunscreen safe for children and adultsor our Raw Morning Cream with SPF30).


2) Moisturize & Shine 



to add or restore moisture to (something); to counteract a dry condition with moisture.

Moisturization is key after exfoliation because it will allow the layers of the skin to fully absorb and lock in moisture on a cellular level. Particularly, moisturizing with a natural oil or butter and not something water based will soothe and prevent damage caused by dryness because of the rich, moisture-retaining properties. Hemp oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter and shea butter are some of the ingredients we use to make our raw lotions the perfect follow-up to exfoliation.

Our Skin Repair and other raw lotions are just want the skin craves after a nice exfoliation session. The hemp seed oil base in our lotions very closely matches the oils we as humans produce making them absorbable down to the deepest layer! There is no water or pore-clogging preservatives in our unique lotions. Remember, just like we get thirsty, our skin does too. Repeatedly exfoliating the skin without following up with a proper moisturizer can leave your skin parched and overly-sensitive (especially if you are someone who enjoys taking hot showers). Remember, there is no step 3 without step 2.


3) Sleep On It



the resting state in which the body is not active and the mind is not conscious; the natural periodic suspension of consciousness during which the powers of the body are restored.

Finally, the last step! So why on Earth is sleeping good for the skin? Well, poor sleep or lack thereof, can lead to increased levels of stress hormones in the body that then increase inflammation and inflammatory skin conditions like acne, eczema psoriasis, etc. Our skin goes into 'repair mode' as we sleep; it's essential to recharge. Have you ever noticed how much puffier your eyes are the morning after 3 hours of sleep versus 7?



4 reasons SLEEP is beneficial for your SKIN  + overall health:

  • Not enough sleep worsens existing skin conditions: 
    - this will show up as increased acne breakouts, increased skin sensitivity, and even increased allergic dermatitis reactions. Remember, more severe conditions mean more treatment and skin care.
    • Not enough sleep makes immune-related skin problems worse: 
      - higher levels of inflammation in the body throws off the body's ability to regulate the immune system, which then leads not only to getting sick more often, but also to flare ups of immune-related skin diseases like psoriasis and eczema -- such skin diseases indicate inflammation of the body. 
      • Not enough sleep detracts from your skin's natural beauty: 
        - increased inflammation in the body leads to an increase in the breakdown of collagen and hyaluronic acid, the molecules that give the skin its glow, bounce, and elasticity. The goal is always to wear less makeup, right?
        • Not enough sleep accelerates the aging process: 
          - when in a nice, deep sleep, the rise in growth hormones allows damaged cells to become fixed or repaired. Without those deeper phases of sleep, this won't occur, promoting small day-to-day breakdowns to accumulate instead of being reversed overnight. This generates more noticeable signs of aging.
