Bone Broth Recipe
Gut healing Bone Broth Recipe This recipe is one that has nourished our family for nearly 10 years. We sip on it for good health and when we are sick. We cook with it by substituting when a recipe calls for water in things like rice and soup. Include it as an additional ingredient in things like refried beans, casseroles, really the sky is the limit! Tools: Instant Pot or Crockpot Roasting Pan Knife Chopping Board Mesh strainer Large Pyrex pitcher Mason Jars Ingredients: 4 raw chicken feet 2 raw chicken backs or leftover bones from a roasted chicken 3-4 roasted beef marrow bones (optional but we think is key to a really gelatinous broth) Splash of apple cider vinegar optional flavoring additions: The rind from 2 lemons A few knuckles of peeled Ginger and Turmeric (5inches or so) Handful of fresh Thyme A whole head of garlic (pull apart cloves but leave papery skins on) 1.5T of black peppercorns 2T of Himalayan salt Cover with filtered water about 2.5inches from the rim of the pot Directions: 1st round Cook: (best for sipping) *Roast your beef bones first for 20min at 425 degrees Cover a jelly roll pan with parchment paper Lay out your bones with 2inch spacing Drizzle with oil and salt (optional) Use a high smoke point oil like coconut or avocado oil Add all ingredients to Instant Pot or Crockpot Set to slow cook for maximum time, usually it's 20hrs. Ideally you want this to slow cook for a full day. Once done strain out broth with a mesh strainer over a Pyrex pitcher. Squeeze a whole lemon and salt to taste. 2nd and 3rd round to cook: (not as gelatinous, what I’d consider best to make soups and rice etc IF you don't add any additional bones) refill pot with water 3 roasted Beef marrow bones 4 raw Chicken Feet 2T of Salt 1T Black peppercorns 5 Cloves of garlic with skin And a couple sprigs of fresh thyme and cook the same way as your first batch. 1 batch makes about 4x 32oz Large Mason Jars. Notes: Thyme, lemon and garlic are not required but add a nice flavor. You could many other herbal additions! Rosemary and Lemon Ginger and Turmeric Mushrooms and thyme
